The Weber Q300 – Yet Another Weber Top Notch Quality Grill!
REVIEW:
The Weber Q300 Gas Grill is a superbly engineered gas grill and constructed of top quality materials. The grill is manufactured from sturdy and durable high quality thermoplastic, a section from glass reinforced nylon, a cast-aluminum lid & body and then some heavy porcelain-enameled cast-iron where it really matters….where you’ll be preparing all those delicious meals.
The cast iron grates are fantastic to grill on and it’s these high quality grates that really makes this an awesome grill. Yes there are some other nice features as well, but it’s the heavy porcelain-enameled cast iron grates that make Weber Q Series Grills what they are…superb quality. The slats on the grate are wider, flatter and spaced a little closer together so that you can even grill fish & veggies on the grill without the use of other equipment. Steaks sear wonderfully on the Q300 and with 393 square inches of real cooking space that provide great and even heat distribution, you’ll have enough surface space to easily grill for 6-8 people.
Two Stainless Steel Burners deliver maximum heat and are responsible for heating up the grate to cook fast and effortlessly. The burners of the Q300 light up easily with the push-button ignition and in no time (5 – 10 minutes) the inside temperature reaches between 500 – 600 degrees F. The temperature can easily be monitored with the strategically placed built-in thermometer. Need to do some indirect cooking? Not a problem for the Q300. Just leave the center burner off and you’re able to cook a delicious whole chicken with some indirect heat.
The Q300 Gas Grill comes with a 20lb hose and regulator for connecting to a 20-LP tank (tank not included). The Stationary Cart, which is supplied with the Q300, has a tank screen that keeps the tank discreetly out of view. The cart is however not fully stationary and has two wheels for easy mobility around the back yard. The grill can be detached from the cart quite easily by removing a few bolts. Another clever little feature is the two fold away side trays that are more than just gimmicks and actually work. Great for keeping your grill tools or any other grilling accessories within arms length. The fold up tables also makes storage nice and easy. Another superb quality feature that seems to be a well kept secret for some or other reason is that Weber grills under go testing for extreme weather conditions – from salt water conditions to bitter cold to humidity. This ensures that the grill will withstand the harshest weather conditions.
Cleaning any grill will never be as quick as washing a cup but that’s not too say it’s very difficult either. Heat up the grill and when the temperature reaches 600 degrees it pretty much becomes self cleaning. After the grate has cooled down it can be scraped with a bronze-bristle brush. The grate can also be removed (once cooled) rather effortlessly in order to wash it with some mild dish washing liquid and hot water. This type of cleaning (burn-off / soapy water) will however require the grill to be seasoned again. The drip pan is easily accessible at the bottom of the grill itself – where all the drippings collect.

CONS:
There are very few complaints about the Q300 and these are hardly worth mentioning, but we will note them non the less. Complaints included marinade or basting burning the food when using this grill (what a joke!!!), grate cleaning problems and damaged parts during shipping. Other than the damaged part complaint, the rest we don’t really view as relevant to the quality of the grill. Cleaning the grill is not too difficult. We are not sure where the cleaning complaint comes from as almost all reviews that refer to cleaning, actually claim the grill is not too difficult to clean. The complaint about the grill burning the food……..well, we suspect the “cook” doesn’t know how to grill properly and is looking for a scape goat because out of all the Weber grills we have reviewed this is the only such complaint we found. Weber ensures the grill parts are extremely well packed with plenty of padding to protect the grills from damages. However, sometimes unavoidable mishaps do occur when goods are in transit. The damaged goods issue does seem to be the most regular complaint, but that’s mostly because there are so few complaints about the grill and in actual fact, it should be noted that most customers (99%) receive their grill perfectly intact. However, should you by some off chance receive a damaged part, just get in contact with Weber. Their customer service and product support is first class.
ADVICE & TIPS:
(1) Heat up the grill for about 5-10 minutes with the lid closed before you start cooking. You can just drop the heat as required when you start grilling.
(2) Purchase a vinyl cover if you can – it will protect your grill from dust, debris, discoloration etc and also prolong the life of your grill. (Weber 6553 Premium Vinyl Cover fits perfectly).
(3) Wait a few seconds after turning on the burners before pushing the ignition button.
(4) Wash the protective wax coating off the grate with a bit of hot water and mild dish washing liquid before your first grill otherwise your food might taste a bit funny as a result of the coating.
(5) Seasoning your Q300 before you grill that first juicy steak is recommended (but not compulsory). Apply a thin coat of solid vegetable shortening over the entire grill. Heat up the grill for 15 minutes before placing the grate inside the grill. While keeping the lid closed you turn the burners to Medium-Off-Medium. Allow grill to heat grates for 1 to 1.5 hours and then turn off the burners. Wait for the grill to cool before removing the grate. Seasoning is definitely not a prerequisite before you start grilling, but it will ensure an even better performance from your grill.
(6) If possible purchase a tank with a pressure gauge on so that you don’t have to guess how much gas you have left.
CONCLUSION:
The Weber Q300 Gas Grill just continues the trend set by the other Q Grills in the series. It’s Weber top notch quality as usual, easy to assemble, pretty easy to clean, grills delicious meals and has brilliant and even heat distribution. The additional features like the thermometer or the side plates are definitely not just for show – these features actually work and add some convenience to your grilling experience. Don’t be alarmed by the fact that certain parts are plastic. The plastic parts are high quality durable thermoplastic that will last and of course no rust problems with plastic. The Weber brand might be more expensive than some of it’s competition, but it’s worth every cent for one reason – quality, quality, quality. Whether it’s Weber’s legendary customer service or the grill itself, quality is what you can expect and what you’ll get. If you require a reliable and superb quality grill that can handle cooking for 6-8 people or smallish parties and still be used as a portable grill, then you’ll absolutely love the Weber Q300 Gas Grill.
